’89 BLICKWINKEL
’89 BLICKWINKEL
Participatory Projection in Public Space
Premiered in October 2024
Presented at Leipzig Main Station
Commissioned by Light Festival Leipzig
To mark the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution in Leipzig, various artistic works were realised along the demonstration route of 9 October 1989 along the entire inner city ring road.
Our project ‘89-Blickwinkel creates a place at Leipzig Central Station where personal perspectives on the political events of 1989 are exchanged and brought into the public space. In this context, the façade of Leipzig Central Station (east side) is the scene of a public discourse. Beforehand, we interviewed Leipzig citizens and contemporary witnesses about the events of 1989 and the changes that accompanied them. The collage of video interviews was supplemented by subtle atmospheric animations and sounds and combined to create a site-specific projection. ’89-Blickwinkel is deliberately not a projection mapping in the classic sense, but a participatory video installation in public space that is intended to stimulate discourse on social and cultural issues in connection with the revolution of 1989 and Leipzig.
