WOANDERS
WOANDERS
Media-Scenography for music performance
Premiered in December 2019
Commissioned by Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin
Concert by Masha Qrella
Based on the poetry by the author and filmmaker Thomas Brasch from the former GDR, the musician Masha Qrella and her ensemble have developed a theatrical concert around the topic of identity conflicts, named »Woanders« (German: »somewhere else«). Xenorama augmented the concert with contextual stage mapping and animations, surround sound design and an audio-visual multi-channel installation in the foyer of the HAU/Berlin where the premiere took place.
In a manifold media scenography comprised of moving images and immersive soundscapes — stretched out across the entire venue and entangled with the pop-concert — questions evolving around displacement, connection and identity were raised and collectively experienced by the audience. Guests from various fields in contemporary art have furthermore galvanised the feeling of connection amid prevailing identity conflicts.
