We won the third prize with our concept LICHTSCHIENE for the “Kunst am Bau” contest for the new harbor area in Stralsund!! Anyways, we are excited how the actual realisation will turn out in the next years…
After being postponed again and again because of the pandemic, »Woanders« finally took place again at WUK Vienna in Oktober 2021. We were very happy to be part of the first Austrian show of »Woanders«. Based on the poetry of the author and filmmaker Thomas Brasch from the former GDR, the musician Masha Qrella and her ensemble have developed a theatrical concert around the topic of identity conflicts, named »Woanders« (German for »somewhere else«). Xenorama augmented the concert with contextual stage mapping and animations, surround sound design and an audio-visual multi-channel installation.
REFLECT is a 360° concert installation exploring the possibilities of an artistic communication between man and machine. A digital entity is embodied in different non-anthropomorphic light, screen and mirror arrangements as an observer, interpreter and virtual conductor.
For Bright Festival, Xenorama transforms their live performance “The Ever Changing Light” into an immersive 360 degree projection. The work, created as part of the retrospective of the late painter Karl Hagemeister at Potsdam Museum, expands and transforms the atmospheric space and aesthetics of the impressionist’s œuvre into the digital world.
The visitor is taken on a sensory journey of the apparent dichotomy of natural and artificial representation. Spread across the walls of Kraftwerk Leipzig the paintings are being analysed, remapped and dispersed into individual particles, further rearranged, layered and reassembled. In an unfolding of landscapes suffused with light and shadow and captured with larger-than-life brushstrokes, the mood of the paintings is captured by a musical composition that intertwines an impressionist piano piece and an arrangement of digital sounds with the visual projections to create a poetic spatial experience.

RELIEF | A topographical film and sound study | Open Air 18. & 19. September 2021 | Waschhaus Potsdam
«RELIEF» is inspired by the question of how a digital independent algorithm would musically interpret natural landscapes which have been increasingly affected by human presence.
Based on drone footage, the result is a landscape film illustrating varying topographies and applying an original soundtrack to them using only custom-programmed algorithms for sound design and composition.
This way, the textures—themselves as silent witnesses of rapidly progressing change, and as historical memory of topographical character and forms—are being given their very unique voice in line with contemporary understanding. The dramaturgy is unfolded by the aesthetic illustration and juxtaposition of natural and anthropogenic terrains from a bird’s eye view, which are used entirely for the generative synthesis of the soundtrack.
Furrows render sequences of frequencies, forestation unfolds shimmering granular sound spectra while liquid surfaces are transformed into multi-layered ambient textures.
RELIEF is a cooperation between Xenorama and Marc Eisenschink.
The project is funded by Fachbereich Kultur und Museum der Landeshauptstadt Potsdam and put into practice in cooperation with Waschhaus Potsdam GmbH.

We are very proud to be nominated for this year’s Media Architecture Award at the MAB20 together with the German Maritime Museum, Westermann Kommunikation, Dirk Mailänder and Lightlife. In our media art installation GEZEITEN as a part of the “Window into the Seas” project, we staged the novel LED frame on the iconic façade of the Maritime Museum Bremerhaven complemented by projection and video art inside the museum. The focus was on the themes of tides, sea, ice and climate research. Stay in touch to find out how the award ceremony turned out.
