THE IMAGINATOR

THE IMAGINATOR

In the installation IMAGINATOR, visitors can create and modify individual visual worlds through the movement of their eyes. After entering a keyword or phrase, the visitor’s gaze is captured using eye-tracking; at the points where their gaze is directed, dynamically meandering and overlapping image compositions emerge.

The installation allows for playful experimentation with image generation through a real-time machine learning model and simultaneously raises the question of how developments in so-called artificial intelligence might affect our relationship with perception and the environment in the future. What effect does it have on our relationship with the environment when we can alter it with ever less effort? What happens when our surroundings can be shaped and changed simply by our focus – as in this exemplary case of the Imaginator? The experience of the IMAGINATOR invites reflection on one’s own perception and allows for a self-observation while observing.
